Kansas clinicals for Samford nurse practitioner students
Samford accepts NP applicants from Kansas, and its September 2025 disclosure rates the NP tracks sufficient for Kansas licensure. KSBN, the Kansas nursing board, lets Kansans enroll in an online APRN program from another state without any prior Board sign-off and saves its review for the day a graduate seeks Kansas APRN licensure. Kansas on Samford's disclosure
Nothing in Samford's NP paperwork holds Kansas back: its row in the September 3, 2025 disclosure is unstarred, and the NP program pages omit it from their excluded states. The Kansas row links straight to KSBN's APRN licensure instructions, the same document Samford's nurse anesthesia disclosure cites. The 2020 State Authorization PDF lists Kansas under every delivery format it tracks.

KSBN reviews the program at the licensure stage
Kansas does its checking at the end. KSBN's guidance for out-of-state APRN programs describes no approval before enrollment; instead, the Board examines your program once you have graduated and applied for your Kansas APRN license, against the standards below.

That guidance also keeps the Board away from your instructors: out-of-state faculty who teach online need no Kansas license, Kansas does not require them at clinical sites, and anyone from the faculty who stops by does so only as a visitor. Save your syllabi and plan of study from the first term, and confirm with Samford that Kansas needs nothing more before a clinical rotation request, which Samford can deny on state rules.
Who should precept you in Kansas
KSBN cites Kansas regulation 60-17-104 for three preceptor expectations in APRN clinicals: an orientation, a signed agreement, and Kansas APRN licensure in the same role the student is studying. It adds that clinically supervising APRN students takes a Kansas APRN license. For a Samford FNP or PMHNP student, the plain reading is an NP licensed by Kansas.
AANP counts Kansas among full practice states, so Kansas NPs practice without a physician agreement. In practice that means a family NP licensed in Kansas with adult primary care patients for NURG 723, one whose panel includes children for NURG 724 (or NURG 716 to NURG 718 on the BSN to DNP plan), and a Kansas psychiatric NP for NURG 788 to NURG 790, with a psychotherapy setting for the NURG 767 hours. Licensing, and the Missouri side of Kansas City
Kansas has been a compact state since mid-2019. While you train there, KSBN treats you under K.S.A. 65-1124 as an advanced practice student working on your RN license, whether that license is multistate or issued by Kansas alone, which fits Samford's rule that your license be valid in each clinical state. Kansas City is the catch. Census estimates for 2025 put 938,283 people on the Kansas side, but most of the metro lies in Missouri, where Samford takes no NP applicants who live there or hold only a Missouri license. A multistate license reaches Missouri, a compact state, yet that Samford rule is about applicants rather than clinical sites, so ask before you plan a rotation there. South of the border, Oklahoma is also a compact state, and its board sets conditions of its own for RNs in out-of-state APRN programs.
Wichita, Topeka, Manhattan and why students choose us
Outside Kansas City, the population sits in three smaller metros. Students across the state usually try Stormont Vail Health, Ascension Via Christi, The University of Kansas Health System and Wesley Healthcare, an HCA hospital in Wichita; treat them as reference points only, with no Samford link implied.

Questions Samford students ask
Which clinical hour minimum will KSBN hold me to?
It depends on when Samford admitted you, with March 1, 2025 as the dividing line: 500 hours before it, 750 after. Samford's current MSN plans of study list 750, and the FNP BSN to DNP page says a minimum of 750 while its plan of study lists 1,050. Check your own plan in Degree Works and keep your hour records.
Can a Kansas physician precept a Samford NP student?
KSBN's guidance points to Kansas APRN preceptors in the student's role. Alabama's rules, which govern Samford as an Alabama program, also count physicians as APRN preceptors. With two sources pointing different ways for a Kansas site, get Samford's answer in writing before you ask a physician.
Will KSBN accept my Samford program for Kansas APRN licensure?
KSBN decides at that point, not before. Samford's disclosure counts its MSN and DNP NP tracks as sufficient for Kansas, and CCNE accredits them. The post-graduate certificates go unmentioned in every Samford disclosure, so check with KSBN and Graduate Student Services before counting on a certificate for Kansas licensure.
Does Samford faculty need to visit my Kansas clinical site?
Kansas does not demand it, as the KSBN guidance above explains. Whether Samford itself schedules site visits, calls or preceptor evaluations is set out in the Nurse Practitioner Homeroom's clinical manual, so look there or ask your course faculty before the rotation starts.
