Samford clinical rotation requests: what goes in, why one can be denied, and moving mid-program

What a complete request carries

Because Samford's form is not public, this list comes from what Samford's documents say it reviews and what clinical sites routinely ask. Check it against your manual.

• The course: its Samford number, title and hours, such as NURG 723 Advanced Practice Clinical I FNP at 150 hours or NURG 789 Advanced Practice Clinical II PMHNP at 225.
• The preceptor: credential, license state and specialty, fitted to the population the course covers.
• The site: legal name, address, practice type, and whether Samford already holds an affiliation agreement there.
• The schedule: a weekly plan inside the 10 to 20 hours Samford describes and inside the term dates.
• The state: where the clinical hours happen, and an RN license valid in that state.
• Your compliance status, current through the end of the term.

Moving to another state during the program

A move is the moment a rotation plan most often has to change. Samford's documents set out what the student owns:

1. Tell your program coordinator.Under the handbook, a student who relocates owes that notice to the program coordinator or director and has to satisfy whatever clinical and distance-education rules the destination state sets.
2. Update your address.Samford's Student Location Policy reads your state from the permanent address held in Banner, so change that address yourself in the Samford Portal.
3. Check the new state.Samford's relocation guidance tells students to read the licensure disclosure for the new state, and your RN license has to be valid there before any clinical hours.
4. Rebuild the placement.A preceptor back in your old state works only if you travel there and stay licensed there, so for most students the search, and any new agreement, starts again near the new home.

Samford commits to e-mail enrolled students within 14 days of learning that their program no longer meets licensure requirements for their state. Nothing public covers an enrolled student relocating to a state on Samford's 16-state list, so raise it with your program coordinator before committing to the move.

How we get your request right the first time

Samford students work with us because we build every placement around the request Samford will review. Before you submit, your placement advisor has checked the preceptor against the course, the site against the agreement question, and the state against your license and Samford's rules.

We gather the preceptor's credentials and site details in the order your request needs them, flag anything that could draw a state-rule denial, and time the search so the request goes in early. When the site is new to Samford, we have its contracting contact ready so the agreement can start alongside the request.
