Alabama is where a large share of Samford's nurse practitioner students do their clinical hours, and each part of the state trains differently. Huntsville's hospital system has its own NP registration, East Alabama Health opens requests on fixed Fridays, the Black Belt carries federal shortage designations across its counties, and a Mobile student may never drive north of Montgomery. Inside each region guide
Every guide starts with the counties, the larger towns and a rough mileage from Samford's campus, then turns to the hospitals and clinics: who runs them now, which publish a student process for outside NP programs, and which appear only as landmarks because they publish nothing. Community health centers and HRSA's primary care and mental health designations follow, since shortage counties are often where a willing preceptor is easiest to find.
Whatever the region, the approval path is the same: Samford reviews the rotation request and, when a clinic has no agreement yet, sets one up first. Rural Alabama preceptors who teach without pay may also qualify for a state tax credit, covered in the preceptor tax credit guide.

Must my clinical site be close to Samford's campus?
No. Samford's program pages describe clinicals in your own community, and the school does not arrange or pay for travel, so students across Alabama usually train near where they live and work.
Which Alabama hospitals publish a process for NP students?
A handful do, among them East Alabama Health and Baptist Health in Montgomery through ACEMAPP, and Huntsville Hospital through its own registration. Many larger systems post nothing for outside NP programs, and each region guide says which is which.
Are the rural counties covered?
Yes. The Black Belt, Wiregrass, Shoals and North Alabama guides cover the rural counties, their federal shortage designations and the small hospitals and health centers where NP students often find a preceptor.
