Samford NP clinicals in Delaware
Delaware residents can apply to Samford's NP tracks, and Samford's disclosure lists Delaware where the tracks meet licensure requirements. Delaware then asks a good deal of schools from other states: notice to the Board of Nursing, plus agreements, preceptor names and preceptor licenses, before a Delaware facility hosts a student. Those filings belong to the school, so raise Delaware with Samford at the very start of your search.

Samford's Delaware status, with one gap
No asterisk marks Delaware in Samford's NP disclosure as of September 3, 2025, and Delaware is absent from the NP program pages' closed-state table.
One document lags behind. Samford's State Authorization list, internally dated January 19, 2020, skips Delaware entirely, though its own text speaks of admitting online students from 49 member states and NC-SARA names Delaware as a SARA member. Delaware's notice rule for schools based elsewhere
Delaware writes its nursing education standards (Title 24, regulation 1900) for all nursing education programs, without carving out graduate study. When a school based in another state wants a Delaware clinical facility, the Board expects to hear from it first, and it expects this packet before any student arrives:
- evidence of the school's standing: home-board approval of the program or national accreditation
- signed agreements between the school and every Delaware clinical agency it will use
- the school's standards for its clinical faculty and preceptors
- who the faculty and preceptors are, and which site each one covers
- each faculty member's and each preceptor's Delaware or multistate license, copied
The Board also signs off on each clinical facility, working from the school's forms, before students are placed, and its representatives may visit. Every item here is the school's to file. Whether Samford has done so for the site you want is something only Samford can tell you, so put the question to your program coordinator before any Delaware preceptor hears from you.
Preceptors and practice in Delaware
Regulation 1900 calls a preceptor a nurse holding at least a BSN and a valid license. It separately says that when an online program's faculty member teaches or precepts in a Delaware facility, that person's license or privilege must sit at or above the level the student is working toward. For an NP student, that appears to mean a license at the NP level or above; ask Samford how it reads for a physician preceptor.
AANP lists Delaware as full practice, so an NP preceptor there may practice without a physician agreement. Samford itself applies the Alabama Board of Nursing's definition of an APRN preceptor, and our preceptor requirements page covers what Samford makes public.
Your license, the APRN Compact and the Pennsylvania line
Since January 19, 2018, Delaware has honored multistate RN licenses under the Nurse Licensure Compact, so one issued by Alabama or any other compact state reaches Delaware clinics and meets Samford's handbook rule. Delaware also passed the APRN Compact into law in August 2021, yet with only five enacting states against the seven required, that compact has never started, and NCSBN told its May 2026 roundtable it is working with boards on a redesign.
Location matters in the Wilmington area. Samford turns away NP applicants from Pennsylvania and has said nothing public about clinicals there, so check with your program coordinator before chasing a Pennsylvania preceptor. Maryland and New Jersey are compact states where Samford accepts applicants.

The 2025 Census estimates put the Dover metro at 194,786 and the Seaford micropolitan area at 277,140, while the Delaware slice of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro holds 588,026 people. NP students here weigh Bayhealth, Beebe Healthcare and ChristianaCare, and Nemours Children's Health runs its Delaware hospital in Wilmington. Why does Delaware want my preceptor's name before my rotation starts?
Delaware's rules have a school based elsewhere hand the Board of Nursing its preceptors' names, their sites and copies of their Delaware or multistate licenses before a Delaware facility is used. Your preceptor needs to be confirmed early enough for Samford to handle that step.
Can I do a Samford rotation in Pennsylvania from northern Delaware?
Samford does not take NP applicants from Pennsylvania, and it has published no position on rotations there. Put the question to your program coordinator before you contact a Pennsylvania preceptor; sites in Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey avoid it altogether.
Does Delaware's APRN Compact help me practice as an NP elsewhere?
Not yet. Delaware passed the APRN Compact in 2021, but the compact needs seven member states and has five, and NCSBN has started redesigning it. For now, a new NP applies for licensure in each state separately.
Is Delaware missing from Samford's state authorization list?
From the 2020 State Authorization list, yes: it has no Delaware row. Samford's current NP disclosure, dated as of September 3, 2025, lists Delaware without an asterisk, and NC-SARA counts Delaware as a SARA member. Graduate Student Services can confirm Delaware's status in writing.
