Samford NP clinicals in Maryland
Samford accepts NP applicants from Maryland and finds its NP tracks sufficient for Maryland licensure. Our research found no Maryland rule on programs from other states placing students in Maryland clinics. Two Maryland features are worth raising early: MBON, the state nursing board, certifies graduates only of NP programs it has reviewed, and the state's preceptor tax credit depends on a Board-approved preceptorship.

Maryland on Samford's lists
The September 2025 NP disclosure gives Maryland an unstarred row, and Maryland is not among the states Samford's NP pages say it cannot take. The Maryland row links to the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON), and the nurse anesthesia disclosure links to MBON's page for nurse anesthetists. Samford's 2020 authorization list counts Maryland in each of its three categories.

MBON's review of NP programs
MBON will certify graduates of an NP program as advanced practice nurses only after the Board has reviewed and approved that program. If a program is absent from MBON's approved list, responsibility for the Program Approval Form lies with the school rather than the applicant. Ask Samford about its standing on MBON's list well before your final term.
The clinicals themselves face fewer formal steps. Our state research found no MBON requirement that programs from other states seek approval before placing students, and Maryland's Health Occupations Article, at 8-301(d)(2), carves out from licensure a student in an accredited graduate APRN program who is practicing within that program. MBON's education pages treat out-of-state programs only as a licensure question. Confirm the details with Samford before your clinical rotation request.
Maryland's preceptor tax credit, in plain words

Baltimore, the Washington suburbs and the state lines
Maryland's population splits between two large metros. Students tend to name the University of Maryland Medical System, Luminis Health, MedStar Health, LifeBridge Health and Johns Hopkins Medicine first; none is presented here as having any Samford arrangement.

Maryland's compact membership dates from January 19, 2018, and its nursing regulations recognize the multistate privilege, with the holder bound by Maryland law while working there. The District of Columbia is not a compact member, so a DC clinic needs a DC license. West Virginia, across the line from Hagerstown, is excluded from Samford's NP admissions; ask Samford before planning a clinic there. AANP's summary adds one step to full practice in Maryland: a new NP declares an 18-month mentoring relationship with a certified NP or a physician. The rule touches your career after graduation rather than your student rotations, though a preceptor who has completed it can explain how the arrangement works day to day.
I found a Samford disclosure that leaves Maryland out. Which one is right?
Rely on the NP disclosure Samford links from its Consumer Information page today, the one dated September 3, 2025, which lists Maryland as meeting requirements. An older 2020 DNP disclosure, still reachable through search engines, omitted Maryland and several other states. Samford no longer links it, and it should not be relied on.
Does Samford need Maryland's permission to enroll me online?
Out-of-state schools usually must register with Maryland's Higher Education Commission before taking Maryland residents into online programs, but COMAR 13B.05.01.02 exempts SARA-approved institutions from that step. Samford's Consumer Information page says it participates in SARA, and NC-SARA's directory lists it as a participant. Clinical and licensure questions are separate and go to Samford.
Can I train in Washington, DC, from the Maryland suburbs?
Only with a DC RN license, because the District sits outside the compact and a Maryland multistate license earns no privilege there. Samford's handbook requires a valid license in every clinical jurisdiction. Most suburban Maryland students keep rotations on the Maryland side unless they already hold a DC license.
